    80'sカレッジ・ロックのカリスマ、キャンパー・ヴァン・ベートーヴェンのデヴィッド・ロワリーと、元デンジャラスのジョニー・ヒックマンにより、91年に結成されたクラッカー。ルーツ・ロックを雛形として築き上げられた、アメリカの大陸を感じさせるダイナミックなR&Rを、装飾の少ないバンド・アンサンブルで展開。その、シンプルでありながらも味わい深いサウンドは、R.E.M.／ジン・ブロッサムズ／ソウル・アサイラムを彷彿とさせる。バンド名をタイトルに掲げた92年のデビュー・アルバムから、「Teen Angst」がCMJチャートNo.１を獲得。翌年の２nd『Kerosene Hat』は100万枚以上のセールスを上げた。そして、よりメロディ志向な方向性を呈示した98年『Gentlemans Blues』は、クラッカーの最高傑作といえる。
