68年、発足したばかりの＜アップル・レコード＞は、矢継ぎ早に新人アーティストをデビューさせていたが、ジャッキー・ロマックスもその中の一人。ちなみにリヴァプール出身である。
デビュー・アルバムはプロデュースがジョージ・ハリスン、参加メンバーもリンゴ・スター、ポール・マッカートニー、エリック・クラプトン等々、アップルが並々ならぬ期待を寄せていた存在であった。白人らしからぬソウルフルなヴォーカリゼイションとアーシーな音楽性は、サイケ・ブームも一段落したロック・シーンの中では充分に新しい個性だったわけである。アップルが閉鎖された後も、アメリカに渡り、よりダウン・トゥ・アースなサウンドを深めていった。一時期バジャーにも参加していたが、強引にニュー・オリンズ録音を強行した結果が芳しくなく、バンドを解散させてしまっている。
70年代後半は、アメリカ西海岸を中心にアダルトなロックを聴かせた。 （小池清彦）
