多少素朴とはいえインダストリアル・ポップの傑作となった89年の『プリティ・ヘイト・マシーン』で衝撃のデビューを果たして以来、猛烈な不満と怒りを表現した92年のEP「ブロークン」、悩みに満ちた94年の『ザ・ダウンワード・スパイラル』から99年の荒涼たる『ザ・フラジャイル』に至るまで、ナイン・インチ・ネイルズのフロントマン、トレント・レズナーは自らがポップ・ミュージック界において重要な存在であることを実証してきた。
レズナーはマッキントッシュを使い疎外感や自己嫌悪、そして苦い裏切りを表現することにかけては完成された技をもっている。静けさの中に緊張状態を作り出し、それをインダストリアル・ノイズとして爆発的に解放する——レズナーの生み出す楽曲は、90年代の名曲として音楽史に燦然と輝いてきた。と同時に、彼は自らのレーベル＜ナッシング＞を設立しマリリン・マンソンをデビューさせたり、オリバー・ストーン監督の『ナチュラル・ボーン・キラーズ』やデヴィッド・リンチ監督の『ロスト・ハイウェイ』のサウンドトラックを手がけるなど、バンド以外のプロジェクトでも見事な手腕を発揮している。05年には、間にリミックス・アルバムとライヴ・アルバムを挟んでいるものの、『ザ・フラジャイル』以来６年ぶりとなる新作『ウィズ・ティース』をリリース。メンバーを入れ替え以前よりパワー・アップしたエモーショナル・サウンドと、円熟味を増した力強いヴォーカルでついにシーンの最前線に復帰する！
