    初吹き込みは30年。＜パラマウント＞レーベルのために行われ、報酬は40ドルだったという。この時のセッションで「My Black Mama」「Preachin' The Blues」「Dry Spell Blues」といった傑作が録音され、悪魔に魅入られたかのようなデルタ・ビートを鳴らした。40年代にも国会図書館のように録音を行うが、その後、行方知れずに……。しかし64年に再発見。以降、伝説のブルース・マンとして第二の人生を歩み、数多くの作品を残した。
    88年に86歳で大往生を遂げる。
