    1970年の全米No.1ヒット「SOMEDAY WE'LL BE TOGETHER」を最後にシュープリームスを脱退。同年4月に「REACH OUT AND TOUCH」でソロデビュー。続く2ndシングル「エイント・ノー・マウンテン・ハイ・イナフ」をヒット・チャート１位に叩き込んだ。また映画界にも進出し、ソウル・シンガーからポップ・スターへの道を歩み始める。そんななか、傑作『ダイアナ』（80年）をリリース。ナイル・ロジャースをプロデュースに迎え、シックが全面的にバック・アップしたこのアルバムでダイアナ・ロスは、ディスコとファンクの中庸をいくグルーヴィなサウンドを展開。それらのトラックは彼女のクロさの薄いヴォーカルと絶妙なマッチングを見せ、結果、誰もが歌って踊れる軽妙な作品に仕上がった。
    最近では、ジャズ・シンガー的なアプローチをみせるダイアナ・ロス。彼女は今もなお、US芸能界の首領（ドン）として君臨し続けている。
