    Dead Can Danceデッド・カン・ダンス

    80年代における英＜４AD＞レーベルを象徴していたヨーロッパ的頽廃ムードと異教徒のような妖しい匂い。そういったカラーをコクトー・ツインズやジス・モータル・コイル、バウハウスといったグループと早くから形成していたのがデッド・カン・ダンスである。
    ブレンダン・ベリーとリサ・ジェラルドを中心に、80年、オーストラリア・メルボルンにて結成（初期においてはバンド・スタイルだったが、現在はリサとブレンダンによるデュオとして実質的に活動）。83年にはロンドンで＜４AD＞と契約を交わし、１stアルバム『エデンの東』を発表している。以降、一貫として耽美でアーティスティックな音楽世界を、あくまでも自由なスタンスで展開する。ギリシャ神話やポエティックな心象風景をテーマにした深遠な歌詞、ルネッサンス音楽や伝統音楽からの影響が顕著なひたすら美しい旋律は、いつ耳にしても心が洗われるようだ。また、迷宮のようなサウンド・コラージュはどこか哲学的なニュアンスも多分に含んでいるが、聴き手を限定するような小難しいものでは決してない。
