    72年、売れ行き不振にあえいでいたところにデヴィッド・ボウイが曲提供とプロデュースという形で助け船を出し、『すべての若き野郎ども』をヒットさせたモット・ザ・フープル。そのステージのワイルドさからヴァイオレンス・ロックとも呼ばれたが、この辺りを境にグラム・テイストなども取り入れつつ拡がりを見せて行く。が、74年に解散。——ここの中心人物だったのがイアン・ハンターだ。彼を語る時に外せないのがミック・ロンソンというギタリスト。グラム・ロック全盛期のデヴィッド・ボウイとのコンビが有名だが、モット解散直前に加入し、ミックが病床に倒れる93年まで約20年にもわたって断続的ではあるがバンド活動やプロデュース業を共にしてきた。
    イアン・ハンターは75年に１stソロ・アルバム『双子座伝説』を出すが、この作品にもミックは全面的に参加。基本的には、ある種普遍的な魅力をもつハンターの渋くてワイルドなロックンロールが軸になっているが。共作のスロー・ナンバー「Boy」の何とも言えない切なげなウェット感などは、まさにミックあっての仕事といった感じだ。
    最近の動向は不明だが、97年にミックの故郷で行われた追悼ライヴには参加、ステージで演奏を聴かせた。
